Crescent
City, on the northern California Coast, is located
in the center of the Redwoods, the world's oldest and tallest
trees.
Redwood
National Park
is home to some of the world's tallest trees: old-growth coast
redwoods. They can live to be 2000 years old and grow to over 300
feet tall. The parks' mosaic of habitats include prairie/oak
woodlands, mighty rivers and streams, and 37 miles of pristine
Pacific coastline
Del
Norte Coast Redwoods State Park
The park protects old growth coast redwoods, some of the world's
tallest trees.
Jedediah
Smith Redwoods State Park
The park is named after the intrepid explorer, Jedediah Stong
Smith who was the first white man to explore the interior of
northern California.
Trees
of Mystery, just 15 minutes south of Crescent City in Klamath,
contains some of the regions largest and most interesting Redwoods
including world's largest Cathedral Tree. The recent
addition of 1570 ft long skytram which travels through the tops of
the trees for some magnficient views.
One
of the largest privately owned world class museums,
The
End of the Trail Museum contains 6 rooms of Native American
artifacts that have been painstakingly assembled over a period of
about 40 years by Marylee Thompson. Adjacent to the Trees of
Mystery gift shop.
Ocean
World Aquarium features a 500,000 gallon salt water aquarium
with touch pools and underwater viewing. See otters, bat
rays, sea lions and more at this unique aquarium.
A unique
location for wildlife viewing, the Lake Earl area at
Tolowa
Dunes State Park includes Canada Aleutian geese, peregrine falcons,
deer, coyote, racdoons and more. Just 2 miles north of
Crescent City.
Battery
Point Lighthouse,
built in 1856, today
the Del Norte County Historical Society maintains a Maritime
Museum at Battery Pt. and shines the light as a private aid to
navigation.
