Muir Woods National Monument is a short distance from
Sausalito and well worth the trip. Beautiful coastal redwood forest with lush green, undergrowth lie in this protected area surrounded by Mt. Tamalpais Park. The Muir Woods has a variety of trails, including the popular Redwood Canyon, but picnicing and biking are not allowed in the park, and dogs and smoking are not allowed on the trails.

Angel Island Immigration Station was the entry point for more than a million immigrants between 1910 and 1930. Visit the museum in the old barracks and a dormitory recreation area. Rare opportunity to realize the experience of early citizens. The museum is open on weekends in the summer.
