Mission San Buenaventura was the 9th of the California missions founded by Father Serra. Visit the church, grounds and museum of Chumash Indian exhibits.

After Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1822, massive land grants were given for military services rendered. Of these, Don Raimundo received 2,000 acres and built his home, The Olivas Adobe.

Channel Islands National Park offers recreation opportunities including diving, snorkling, camping, hiking or relaxing on the beach. Exhibits in the park's visitor center include Chumash Indian artifacts, an indoor tide pool and native botanic exhibits.

Ventura County Maritime Museum features ship designs and models as well as an extensive art collection.

Museum of History and Art has changing art and history collections as well as an extensive historic exhibit and The Albinger Archaeological Museum.

Ventura County maintains a variety of beach camping areas just off Hwy 101 as well as fun seaside activities at Ventura Harbor.
