Newport Seafood & Wine Festival, last full weekend in February, One of the largest seafood & wine festivals in the US, featuring most of Oregon's nearly 100 wineries; exotic dishes as calimari, eel, and abalone;  fine arts and crafts and live entertainment during the three day festival.

Oregon Coast Games The Oregon Coast Geezer Games have been expanded to include contestants ages 30 and up. The games benefit the Newport Senior Center and include swimming, ping pong, tennis, basketball and track and field contests.  Coincides with the historic Nye Beach Clam Bake

SAIL WITH SANTA Take time out and schedule a winter cruise around Yaquina Bay.  The 65-foot Discovery has plenty of inside seating. $21 adults and $13 children. Hours: 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Oregon Coast Aquarium, ext. 5303 at (541)867-3474.


 

Oregon Coast Aquarium, in Newport, named one of the top 10 aquariums by Parade magazine, there are over 190 species of marine life to see.  Passages of the Deep, 200 foot acrylic tunnel passing through a million gallon exhibit of Oregon sea life.  Open daily, hours vary 2820 S.E. The Yaquina Bay Light, in Yaquina Bay State Park,  is a beautifully restored little lighthouse filled with furnishings of the period.

The Yaquina Head Light is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon at 93 feet and has been in operation since 1873.  It is located within the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

You can see hundreds of sea creatures through 112 windows at the Undersea Gardens, the wild presentations at Ripley's Believe It or Not and the lifelike images at the Wax Works.  All located at

Mark O. Hatfield Marine Science Center public wing displays an array of exhibits and hands-on activities including an octopus tank, tidal pool, eye-level exhibits of the ocean floor and coastal habitats.  Admission is free.

The HERO, now moored at Yaquina Bay, was a research vessel in Antarctic waters. Take a guided tour of this historic wooden ship and discover what life was like in the chilly waters of the Antarctic.

Newport Visual Arts Center at 839 NW Beach Drive in the historic Nye Beach Turnaround exhibits a variety of artists' works each year and is free of charge. (541) 265 -6540

Beverly Beach State Park  On the east side of U.S. 101, 7 miles north of Newport on the central Oregon coast.  Campground open year-round.  Showers. Trails. Market and laundromat facilities next to the campground.  Accessible campsites (1F, 1E, 1T), 

South Beach State Park  On U.S. 101, 2 miles south of Newport.  Campground open year-round. Trailer dump station. Showers. Accessible campsites (2E), restrooms, showers for people with disabilities.
